Adrian Nicolas Ong

Adrian is a freshman at Mannes School of Music where he is under the tutelage of Lewis Kaplan and Yibin Li. He recently graduated with honours from the Interlochen Arts Academy, also receiving the fine arts award in music.

At IAA, Adrian studied under Mr. Paul Sonner and was consistently on the Academics and Artistic High Honor list. He was one of the leaders of the IAA Orchestra where he rotated as concertmaster, associate concertmaster, and principal second violinist. He was also active in chamber music and worked with Professors Leslie Dunner, Matthew Schlomer, and Ara Sarkissian.

In 2019, Adrian was accepted with scholarship at the Aspen Summer Music Festival, while in 2018 he participated under scholarship in the Curtis Summerfest (Young Artist Summer Program) in Philadelphia, USA. He was also accepted in the Tanglewood Institute and the Meadowmount School of Music.

Adrian was a soloist in the 7th Suzuki Conference Young Artists Concert in July 2018 where he performed Saint Saens’ Havanaise Op. 18 with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) under the baton of Maestro Herminigildo Ranera. He was also the featured artist at the PPO’s Concert for the Youth where he performed Saint Saens’ Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso under Maestro Yoshikazu Fukumura. Last July 20, 2019, he performed the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the ABS CBN Philharmonic titled “The Young Soloists” at the Arete, Ateneo de Manila University under the baton of Gerard Salonga.

Adrian started violin lessons at the age of 9 under Mellissa Geronimo Esguerra. He was accepted at the Philippine High School for the Arts where he was trained by Gina Medina Perez. Prior to his acceptance at IAA he was featured in a solo recital  titled “Concertino” in August of 2016 at the CCP.  Adrian is also one of the founding members of the Manila Symphony Junior.

Adrian has taken masterclasses with Yevgeny Kutik, Stefan Jackiw, Charles Castleman, Linda Wang, Gabriel Pegis, Timothy Shiu, Alexandra Bartoi ,Thanos Adamopolous, Regina Buenaventura, Juilliard Quartet (chamber music coaching), and the JACK Quartet.
