Before its inception in February 2021, Fischoff Silver Medal winning The Galvin Cello Quartet was simply a group of four friends studying cello performance at Northwestern University. Despite the restrictions the pandemic had presented, each member still wanted to participate in chamber music. They decided it would be a great opportunity to enter the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. With the application deadline quickly approaching the following month and Luiz still living at home in Brazil, it was decided that Luiz would come immediately to the States. With quarantine guidelines and safety measures taken, the quartet had a total of twelve days to prepare, rehearse, and record the required repertoire. Since then, the quartet has continued to play together and record new repertoire for the Meadowmount School of Music. With upcoming projects in motion, The Galvin Cello Quartet is eager to explore and expand the possibilities of a cello quartet!
Newly-formed The Galvin Cello Quartet came to recognition when they captured 2nd prize at the 2021 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition within months of its inception. The quartet is comprised of Sihao He, Sydney Lee, Haddon Kay, and Luiz Fernando Venturelli. Based in Evanston, Illinois, they study with Hans Jorgen Jensen at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music. With upcoming projects in motion, The Galvin Cello Quartet is eager to explore and expand the possibilities of a cello quartet!
